Reliable mounting

The mounting of the remote should be reliable to ensure that the remote comes off only when the user intentionally wants to remove it. The remote should only be removed using a movement opposite to what was used to mount it. In the following sketech we see that moving the remote to the left mounts it on the base and moving it rightwards removes it. Any other movement, like pulling the remote upwards or on the right or left of the base should not remove it.

To achieve this a combination of mounting mechanisms is required.

Channel

A channel is an intendation in the base the that guides the remote into place and prevents it from moving around. The user has to fit the remote within the channel and then slide it in until it fits into place. The remote is held in place by the walls of the channel. The channel can be designed to work with different mounting mechanisms that keep the remote in place like a magnet or a cantilever snap joint.

Groove

A groove can be used as a guide for the user to place the remote in the channel. This is especially important in our product because it is created for users with a visual impairment who might not know how the base looks and which way the remote should be placed. The groove complements the channel.

Remote base

The two mechanisms described can be applied to the base of the remote in the following manner. The groove first guides the user to place the remote and in the channel. Then the walls of the channel provide support to prevent unintended movement and the mechanism on the back provides resistance so that the remote doesn’t fall off.
